A Chat with Clayton about Window Furnishing Trends

05/08/2020

Clayton Sceats is at the forefront of window furnishing trends and innovation, working with Architects and Developers throughout New Zealand and the Pacific.

Andrea, from Ponsonby News spoke with Clayton to discuss automation and how a smart homes are the most noticeable trend in window furnishings right now.

Automation is the future

Technology has accelerated, changing just about every aspect of life, and a well specified smart home is the most noticeable design trend in renovations and new builds. Homeowners are increasingly selecting advanced automation systems to control curtains, blinds and shutters.

This clever tech provides numerous benefits. For example, child and pet safety is often a concern for homeowners and a motorised system is an ideal cordless solution that combines safety, style, and convenience.

Homeowners can also close their blinds at the touch of a button, as well as schedule their window coverings to lower exactly when they want. This keeps a room warm in winter and cool and summer.

In villa-style homes that have been renovated with modern extensions (such as in Parnell or Ponsonby), a dual approach can be implemented. For instance, using fully automated remote-operated blinds in the modern extension and to coordinate with the remaining character areas of the home, motorised shutters or curtains.

"A favourite moment on a project was watching 120 motorised roller blinds rise and fall together. This was a technically skilful project for a home in Mairangi Bay, where the blinds needed to work individually as well as a group." reminisces Clayton.

One thing is for certain – curtains, blinds or shutters shouldn't be an afterthought at the end of the project. They are a major part of a room visually, and something that you will interact with every day, so it’s vital you achieve an end result that is both beautiful and practical.

Lahood works closely with home owners, architects, builders and electricians from early planning stages through to installation.

“It is important there is timber and sockets in the right places.” explains Clayton.
